MIRANDA
is a three piece (Piero
Carafa playes bass, Giuseppe Caputo guitar, voice, synth and sampler,
Nicola Villani drum, electr. drum and synth). They're from the
south of italy (calabria and Puglia), but the band based in Florence,
italy, since 1999
During the several years of activity they've run different musical
directions. Miranda's artistic vision has been described "radical
and broadminded, disgregated and oblique, their attitude mocking
and alienated" (blowup magazine 2006).
They've released 2 albums on fromScratch (inside the whale, 2003,
and rectal exploration 2006) and a split cd with the canadian
band Creeping Nobodies. Defined "one of the most interesting
italian underground bands" (rumore magazine, nov. '07) they're
becoming a cult band of the no wave scene, thanks to their incendiary
shows and to their personal and uncompromising research constantly
carried on..
The
3rd album, growing heads above the roof (released on
2009 may for fromSCRATCH/audioglobe, rereleased on 2011 july
for fromscratch/mandai), adds synthetic
and sampled sounds and it's considered the best
Miranda's album (blow up mag). The sound is dry, essential and
immediate (rumore mag.).
:::BIOGRAPHY:::
1998 Pietro Mele (drum) and Giuseppe Caputo (guitar,
voice) formed a noisy improvisation duo.
1999 he duo played in a florence's radio (Novaradio)
whare they knew Piero. He was a radio dj & a bass player.
Piero joined to the band: it is the beginning of the experience
of the Miranda' s Warn. It's meeting of two different,
but analogous musical worlds. Pietro and Giuseppe had a noise
approach (unsane, unwound, jeusus lizard, big black, glen branca,
birthday party), while Piero had a melodic approach (polvo, gastr
del sol, slint...) even if tending to the experimentation.
january 2001 The first self-released
demo-cd (2001), contains four songs.
march 2001. Miranda' s Warn playes its first concert
with the american band Tristeza, soon after Pietro leaves the
band.
november 2001. Pietro was replaced with Gabriel
Ragonesi. This is an important moment for the band, gabriele introduces
a new element in the spirit of the band, psichedelich approach
tending often to the improvisation. The attitude of the group
begins to change, songs begin to dilate and the voice to disappear.
the name changes too: Miranda.
july 2002. The new line up records "inside
the whale"
Full freedom in the construction of songs, they’re arranged
after long jam sessions, that arrive to a definite form only during
the recording sessions. Inside the whale does not contain songs,
it’s only a documentation of a particular moment in the
evolution of the band’s sound. The three musicians, during
their shows, weave sonorous wefts that head straight for the brain
with a great sonorous impact. The proposed atmospheres are multiple
and often overlapped with unexpected pauses and openings. Also
the improvisation plays a role in the live, the freeform music
allows to destructurate the original songs.
“Inside the whale” was composed and recorded in a
narrow and claustrophobic room, that toke and dragged the sound
down, in depth, where every note, every reverberation has a its
weight and gravity.
may 2003. Inside the whale is released for fromSCRATCHrecords
june 2003. Miranda records a new song, Juan,
for fromSCRATCH compilation, "collisioni in cerchio"
november 2003 Gabriele Ragonesi
leaves the band.
december 2003. Nicola Villani (ex toy koe) joins
the band and in few months a new approach to compositions transforms
the sound. Songs' lenght becomes shorter and the old narcotic
and obscure attitude is definitively lost.
2004. An intense year of work on the new songs.
They will be recorded on april 2005.
July 2004. Play at Assalto al Castello music
festival with Enfance Rouge, Ulan Bator, Velma, Tasaday, Zu and
Ronin
June 2005. Start recording new album in Sieci's
Warehouse (Florence). All recording are live, sound engeneer Giuseppe
Caputo.
July 2005. Finished recording sessions, more
than 3 hrs of recorded stuff from wich new album's tracks will
be taken. Vocal parts overdubbed with contribution of Marco Vannucci
(uber).
march-june 2006.
